Alexandra Carmona is a native of Rochester, NY with a passion for creating and learning. A BFA in Painting from SUNY College at Brockport sparked an interest in collaborative processes of art-making. This led to a new adventure in scenic painting and set building for Orlando Shakespeare Theater. The move to Orlando offered immeasurable opportunities for growth, and Alexandra also spent many years building knowledge of fabrication techniques as an artist with MAD Creative Fabrication. Her artistic skills include painting, sculpture, carpentry, mold-making, casting, fiberglass, metal working and more. Alexandra led fabrication teams responsible for the production of high-quality props and scenery for clients such as Walt Disney Imagineering, Universal Creative, Pentair Aquatic Ecosystems, and NVE Experience Agency. Notable attractions to which Alexandra has contributed include Disney’s Frozen: Ever After at Epcot, Disney’s Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse at Magic Kingdom, Skull Island: Reign of Kong at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, as well as props and specialty lighting fixtures for The Edison at Disney Springs.
In addition to the artistic skills required for fabrication, Alexandra excels at organization, leadership, communication, and decision making. In her role of Production & Design Coordinator at AOA, these skills allow her to manage fabrication and installation teams while ensuring that all aspects of a project exceed the expectations of clients and guests. This is achieved early on during the design process, where she advises AOA’s design team in practical production and buildability. Successful production and installation of props and scenery requires Alexandra to be a strategic planner as well as a quick and effective problem solver. She is proficient at understanding the strengths of her team members and utilizing those strengths to produce work of the best quality, while always prioritizing safety. While coordinating production and jobsite activities, Alexandra works closely with project owners and general contractors in order to efficiently collaborate toward on-schedule and on-budget attractions.
Alexandra is currently pursuing her Masters in Themed Environment Integration through the University of Florida’s Orlando location, CityLab.
