MOTE Aquarium

Sarasota, Florida

Client:

Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium

Mote Marine Laboratory Inc. will be constructing a new 110,000 SF Science and Education Aquarium in Sarasota, FL. The facility must house roughly 1 million gallons water for the aquariums to include the display tanks, holding tanks and filtration systems. The current approved concept proposes a rectilinear building with a self-supporting oval skin element. AOA was brought in by MOTE to oversee the early design and contractor onboarding process, AOA quickly identified cost/ budget concerns with the Architects contract value and was also engaged to rebid the design scope with other firms. AOA will project manage the project from start to finish as well as assist in the design of the exterior skin, future exhibit design, VE, ensure the project stays on budget and completes on time, as well as staff AOA Construction managers and superintendents as the project moves into the construction phase. Concept and initial ideation was created by MOTE and original Architect (Cambridge Seven). However, final and constructed design will be by TVS with an exterior, technology-driven concept update by AOA.
