Hotel Del Coronado

Coronado, California

Client:

BRE Hotels and Resorts

The legendary Hotel Del Coronado has welcomed discerning travelers for more than 130 years to experience Southern California coastal lifestyle at its best. The hotel is an iconic west coast beach resort and happens to be the second largest wooden structure in the US. Hotel Del Coronado and its newest addition, Beach Village at The Del, have every modern amenity imaginable from bespoke concierge services and holistic spa experiences to private chefs and exquisite oceanfront dining.

AOA provided design and project management support for Ocean 1500/Serea restaurant renovation, sun deck, pool deck, and Babcock & Story grab-n-go. AOA directed project management for the spa and fitness renovation as well as is design/project management assistance for the Victorian front porch, meeting rooms, ballrooms, lobby, courtyard, and Grande Hall renovations. AOA’s procurement department originated with the successful management of FF&E and OS&E needs for The Del Coronado.

The original structures in this Victorian building were entirely out of wood. With years of tacked on renovations, it was an incredible undertaking for the team to understand the property’s existing conditions and make important design decisions that were sensitive to the past while celebrating the future. With the exception of the front porch, the design intent is not to replicate what was once there, but to provide a modern interpretation of the past.
